We sat down with Tribe Practitioner Heather McCutcheon for a Q&A about her passion for Reiki and all of the amazing things she's doing to spread the good word about this amazing modality.
Q: What are some key things you share with people who have never experienced a Reiki workshop?
People are generally unaware of the power they have to easily help themselves and others in incredible ways. I am so passionate about imparting this truth both intellectually and experientially, so people leave my class understanding the world and their role in it in a new light. Students frequently report feeling very empowered and excited afterwards, which is really gratifying."
Q: What inspired you to create this workshop?
I’ve learned that people’s destructive behaviors are the result of energetically stored trauma. Not only does this knowledge help me have more compassion for people acting out, I’ve channeled this compassion into my life’s work.
Q: How has Reiki influenced your life personally?
I’m much more calm, have better intuition, self-awareness, and ability to respond to challenges productively rather than with a knee-jerk reaction. It’s made a big difference in the rate of progress I’ve been able to make in my own life. Also knowing I’m doing something to help alleviates the sense of helplessness I had before."
Q: How might others benefit from experiencing your Reiki workshops for self-care?
Reiki is unique in that it can be practiced as a means of self care, much like yoga or meditation—but it doesn’t require as much self discipline. Knowing that you have a pathway to anxiety and pain relief in your own hands at all times is comforting in and of itself. Having it to offer to others is a huge bonus."
Q: When and where do you offer these types of workshops?
I offer one-day Level 1 Reiki classes at Tribe every couple months. Some folks choose to continue with Level 2 out of a desire to expand further, or to become professional practitioners as a second job or full-time career. Others are content with what they’ve learned in Level 1. Either way is great."
Q: Anything else you'd like to share about all of the incredible work you are doing on behalf of Reiki education?
I founded the Reiki Brigade to raise awareness and availability of Reiki within underserved populations and established institutions. We offer Reiki to faculty and students at medical schools, to veterans in VA hospitals and to at-risk kids via the YMCA. I love to document people’s feedback after receiving their first 10-minute Reiki session. Most start out as I did, scoffing, but 10 minutes later, they are transformed. It’s such a joy to witness. You can see a video of priceless feedback from veterans and medical students here:

And if anyone would like to have a presentation about Reiki and demos at their workplace or event, I’d love to hear from them!"
